Magical Descent: Turquoise and Purple Hues on the Bridge

This small bridge really added to the tranquil atmosphere of the Japanese garden. I loved how the late afternoon sun started casting all of these shadows across the walkway and I knew I had to capture this view. I decided to make it even more dramatic and added in some contrasting hues effect. This created a scene that was even more magical and enchanting. The pastel aqua, turquoise and purple colors started coming to life.

Shining Bright in Santa Monica: Reflections at the Pier

A bustling night out at the Santa Monica Pier. Crowds began to dissipate as we went further down the pier into pitch black darkness, hearing laughter in the distance and calming waves.

From the other side, we could see the famous Pacific Wheel, altering into different colors and designs every other second. I particularly loved this color cast--a mix of orange and pink, creating that soft yet vibrant salmon color.

That stunning view just after sunrise as the sky begins to clear up and the fog slowly evaporates.

The skyscrapers, water, hills, and bridges start to show their true colors.

Broad Museum's State-of-the Art Design and Architecture

Described as a "block-size box", the design and architecture of the Broad Museum is beyond modern and stunning with sharp, intricate details outside and inside.

I decided to capture a closeup view of this building to really capture the magnificent, contemporary composition.

Chill Sunset Vibes at the Desert Garden

Huntington Garden Part III: Casually strolling and enjoying the sunset vibes at the desert garden...just like this cactus.

The changes in temperatures and sky colors made walking in the desert much more bearable and peaceful, with tons of trees capturing our attention every step of the way.

Soft Pastel Summer Vibes: Sandy Beaches and Waves

A tranquil scene in a chaotic world.

I love this view of the waves crashing into the shore in the later afternoon, where you see the sunlight directly reflecting on the water, creating these cool textures and effects, making it look 3D almost.

I wanted to give this a soft, pastel feel where it feels light and airy like summer and in the comforting light turquoise and pinkish beige hues, so I adjusted the colors a bit giving it a more warmer tone.

One-Way Color Tunnel: When Light Strikes, Colors Explode

This stunning One-Way Color Tunnel, created with a mix of mirrors and glass panels by Olafur Eliasson's, glows in various shades of blue, pink, purple, green, orange and yellow shades depending on where you stand and your unique perspective.

The time of day and the amount of light streaming into this Oculus Bridge at San Francisco MOMA changes the color arrangement, making this art installation a transformative experience each time you step into it.

Glow in the Dark: Sandy Mountains in Nature

Such a beautiful view and the perfect capture of the surrounding sandy dunes and greenery.

I really liked how this image looked and was amazed by the texture and the variety of hues within all the green--so I decided to alter the image a bit giving it a more green-blue glow and adding some light purple colors to the sky. It has this nice glow in the dark look and feel while still letting the specific parts of the mountain park stand out on its own.

Light Up Chinatown: Lanterns Shine on Grant Ave at Night

A completely different vibe in Chinatown when you compare day vs night. As the sun begins to set, the lights in the buildings and the lanterns slowly turn on, glowing across all the streets on the touristy, ever-famous Grant Ave.

Strokes of Art: Abstract Imagery Comes to Life

Teamlab Continuity Part III: As the crows descend from each of the rooms and make their rounds across the floor, trails of light begin to follow. These bright, abstract, calligraphy-like strokes of light resemble splashes of art. The colorful red roses surrounding it gives that extra burst of color.

Flow of Water in the Room: Tranquil Lights + Roses

Teamlab Continuity Part II: You experience so much energy yet so much tranquility in this special exhibit at Asian Art museum. From different imagery displaying across the screen and sounds of nature vibes from all over, this is everything you've ever dreamed of.

As the fishes began to escape from one room to another, we watched as it danced from wall to wall and continued quickly through the floor, flowing fluidly like water in super clean strokes. It was so cool capturing this, with the flowers in the surrounding background.

Streets of Yokohama: Colorful Building Aesthetics

After leaving Yokohama Station, I peered outside at this narrow streetway and immediately loved it. All the buildings are perfectly aligned, with neutral colors first in our view..,then colorful signs further out. The gray cast in the sky added to the cool vibes here, really allowing the neutral hues of the buildings to both blend in and stand out at the same time.

Berkeley Rose Garden: Stroll Down the Pergola Walkway

A slightly warmer day and equally bright sunshine in the middle of the afternoon calls for stunning views at the Berkeley Rose Garden.

I particularly loved this magnificent pergola walkway. Captured from this angle, you get glimpses of the amphitheater garden, colorful roses from afar, snapshots of the trees + sky in the background, and the design of the pergola (including its sharp, clear shadows).

Lily Pond's Splashy Textures + Patterns

We went on a sunny stroll through parts of the Golden Gate Park, eventually stumbling upon Lily Pond.

From afar, the water looks quite murky, but from an artistic perspective, the details in the water here sort of reminds me of a Van Gogh painting, especially when you compare it to the textures and patterns of the water reflections.

Turquoise Blue Skies and Palm Trees Effect

Saw a row of palm trees in a straight line and had to capture it front and center!

I decided to make this into a vertical photo to try something new and unique and give the palm trees a chance to shine on their own (with an added turquoise hue filter).

Blue Skies Ahead: Vibrant Colors of Golden Gate Bridge

One of those truly rare crystal clear blue sky days in San Francisco, where everything shined so brightly, from the glistening dark blue water to the sparkling sun. No speck of fog or low clouds in sight.

Aerial View of Snowy Mountains in Canada

Striking, stunning mountains covered in snow all across western Canada. It's so surreal and makes you do a double take (are those clouds or mountains?) I couldn't resist these aerial views and of course, had to capture all of them!

Autumn Trees Reflections in the Walkway Effect

I saw one of the most pristine, precise walkways at the botanical garden the other day and knew I had to take a picture! As I was editing the photo, I felt like it was missing that extra pizzazz so I started manipulating this, doing a complete carbon copy of the image on the left, swapping it the other way, and adding it to the right! The photo someone looks more complete, like perfectly symmetrical walkways right next to each other, with the beautiful shadows. I changed up the hues a bit, giving it that soft autumn orange vibe.

Underneath the Sea: Fishes Roam in the Water

I absolutely loved the clear, stark contrast here where the fishes really stood out against the bright blue water (and light) in the aquarium. Such beautiful, colorful hues showing the majestic wonders of the sea!

Painterly Swirl Effect: Pastel Colors in the World

I started playing around with different paint strokes in Photoshop, choosing soft pastel hues ranging from yellow, green and purple to pink and blue. Originally this was going to be an abstract piece but after changing up the effects, I decided to turn it into a swirl design. What's fascinating is how this looks like an actual painting, not created digitally.

Starking Contrast:: Jellyfishes in the Aquarium

One of my favorite parts of this aquarium is watching these jellyfishes move about in the waters and collide with one another. The beautiful contrast with the lighting, the water, and the colors of the jellyfishes created such strong contrasts that really made this photo pop out!

Streams of Light + Rainbow Reflections at Yokohama

A spectacular night filled with rainbow colors, clear reflections, and blinding lights calls for magical skies.

I was inspired by the cool streams of lights effect that I saw in a manga and wanted to bring it to life with this photo of the Minato Mirai waterfront in Yokohama, Japan.

White-Pink Blush: Cherry Blossoms at First Glance

The whitest-pink flowers ever on display in San Francisco.

I made a couple adjustments, brightening the colors and whitening the image to give it a more striking look and feel, while still bringing out the pastels.

Welcome to the Crystal World of Lights

Ventured into the Crystal World at Teamlab Borderless, where sights and sounds surround you all 360 degrees of the way. The changing gradient colors, delicate crystals, and streams of lights dazzle right in front of us at every corner, giving us a new taste on reality. Beauty is all around us, if only we pause to truly admire it.

Pastel Painterly Strokes of Art Effect

I have been obsessed with the latest trend popping up all over spring--painterly style prints, art, and design. The pastel and bold hues bring extra optimism into our lives while still adding that extra pop of color.

I was inspired to mix up a bunch of different pastel hues from across the rainbow, adding in random paint strokes (while creating layers and layers of them) and other textures to create this piece here.

Magical Sunlight + Pastel Trees at Shakespeare Garden

The mid-afternoon sun created enchanting soft-hued streams of shadow effects at Shakespeare Garden, making for the perfect picture here! I love the lighting, the delicate tree shadows, and the flawless alignment of the flowers and trees in this intimate, serene garden.

I lightened the image a little more to add on to the dreamy, ethereal vibes, showcasing spring's beautiful and charming energy.

Shadow Play: Rocks, Houses, and Expansive Views

A breezy day in the city knocking away the fog, clouds and grey skies.

I loved looking down from the hill into the city head on--seeing the houses, parks, and countless amount of trees across different spans of neighborhoods. The shadows coming from the mid-afternoon sun on the rocks was an extra bonus perk!

Pastel Blur: Wintry Trees + Painting Effect

I took a simple photo of some wintry trees and wanted to alter the scene.

I wanted it to resemble something in between a painting and an image on a greetings card.

After manipulating a little water scene with the tree reflections, I played with the colors (lightening the whole look and feel with pastel vibes), blurred out the details, and then changed the texture to give it a painterly feel.

Winter Meets Spring: Pink Cherry Blossoms in the City

Spring is almost here. An hour before the sprinkles and rain came, I walked outside and caught sight of these blooming sakura flowers. Still really small, but the beauty and color were widely visible. The eccentric, modern building in the background made for a stunning backdrop against these cherry blossoms!

When Sakura Blooms: Pink Cherry Blossom Trees

Tidal Basin Part III: A cluster of cherry blossoms surround the popular Tidal Basin in Washington DC. We were in awe of the mix of pale white to deep pink flowers that surrounded the basin on our mile-plus long walk. It was a calming venture from daylight to twilight, all the way until dusk.

In Your Eyes: Colorful, Bright Ferris Wheel

One of the coolest, most colorful ferris wheels ever. The lights shined so brightly and altered into all these other unique color combos throughout the night!

It's fascinating sitting inside of one and watching the hues change right in front of your eyes in this particular angle.

Pink to Blue: Ethereal Moon and Stars Imagery

As always, I love Little Twin Stars and am obsessed with their pastel colors, gradient backgrounds, and celestial stars and moon artwork. I was inspired recently to create imagery around this. I made the moon the main focus point for this and sprinkled stars and sparkle effects throughout the background.

In general, to keep images from looking too 2D or falling flat, I like to add in other effects to bring in some type of texture to the backgrounds, especially after adding in a gradient. For this piece, after adding in the pink to blue gradient in the background (with mixes of pastels and brights), I also used a couple special effects to include other types of patterns to it.

The Great Wheel by the Pier Waters

The classic Great Wheel in Seattle sitting pretty by the pier.

Windy weather = clearing skies. With the clouds slowly breaking through, the sky looks so much like a painting with some wispy cloud strokes across it and faded blue colors in its surroundings.

Clear Blue Glass + City Water Views

Spotless sky with bright blue hues from above.

This building worked wonders from this angle - I love how the glass looked, right next to the water and the ocean colors surrounding it in all directions.
